Proposed Bocilla Lagoon Dredging
Following the hurricanes, sand accumulated near the bend at Pinfish Point, temporarily preventing boats from accessing Bocilla Lagoon. At the time, many residents supported county assistance to restore access.
Nearly two years later, conditions have changed. Natural water movement has created a navigable channel, and boats are once again able to pass through the area. The proposed project would dredge only a small section near the bend at Pinfish Point, not the entire lagoon as some residents originally understood.
Residents have raised questions about whether the project is still necessary, particularly given the estimated assessment of approximately $9,000 per waterfront property over eight years. There are also concerns about the potential effects on the lagoon’s wildlife habitat, including an area regularly used by dolphins and their calves.
Survey Results
PIE conducted a survey to better understand how Bocilla Lagoon residents currently feel about the proposed dredging. The results were compiled and shared with the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners so they have clear, up-to-date feedback from the property owners who would be most directly affected.
The survey is now closed. View the results >
