Welcome to the Pie Action Committee

At Palm Island Estates, we pride ourselves on fostering a close-knit community where residents come together to protect our unique island lifestyle. The Pie Action Committee (PAC) is a dedicated group of volunteers committed to ensuring that our collective voice is heard when important issues arise. Comprised of passionate members including Meryl Schaeffer, Linda Cotherman, and Lindsey Yates, the PAC actively tackles challenges that threaten our way of life, such as the recent proposal from a private for-profit utility company to install sewer systems on our island.

Our mission is to safeguard the interests of Palm Island Estates residents by forming task forces that address pressing concerns. Currently, we are focused on uniting our community to effectively advocate against unwanted developments and to ensure that our voices resonate with the Public Service Commission (PSC) and other decision-makers. Together, we are committed to maintaining the integrity and charm of our beloved island.

PIE’s civic action is driven by the PIE Action Committee and is supported by the PIE Action Fund. Join us in our efforts to protect Palm Island Estates. Together, we can make a difference!

Types of Contributions to Our Island From Our Applicants

In 2024, Hunter Barrettsmith, one of our full time High School Island kids volunteered for a great community project. Hunter assembled and put up 2 FWC Monofilament recycling bins. This is a project to educate the public on the consequences of fishing line left in the environment, and its impact on our wildlife. The bins carnie found on both bridges, where fishing is common.

Jett Parrish, one of our full-time High School Island Kids, volunteered for a great community project.  Jett assembled and put up 2 “Bone Boxes” for all the Island Dogs! One on S. Gulf and one on N. Gulf (at the Public beach accesses).

One of our amazing “Island Kids” wanted to raise awareness & encourage people to be alert & slow down while driving on the island. Summer & July 4th week is a busy time….please take Capri’s advice..and “Be A Slow Poke”. The island tortoises are endangered and if we all slow down, we can make a difference in keeping these amazing creatures around for future generations…Thank you, Capri…What a great job on this poster! Poster will be on display on the Bocilla Islands Conservancy Bulletin Board.
