What’s Next After the Sewer Hearings?

Now that the PSC sewer hearings have concluded, many people are wondering when we’ll get a decision and whether the Commissioners had already made up their minds before the hearings began.

When Will We Get a Decision?

At the end of the meeting, Commissioner Graham stated that the Commission’s final vote should take place in about four months. The process takes time because:

  • The parties must file their post-hearing briefs.
  • PSC staff will prepare recommendations for the Board.
  • The Commissioners will then review all evidence and make a decision.

Have They Already Made Up Their Minds?

No, they have not. Commissioner Graham emphasized that the Commissioners must weigh many factors before making a decision. Commissioner Passidomo reinforced this, stating that the record is still being built and that they must evaluate all evidence, including letters, exhibits, and testimony. They have a lot to consider and must comply with the legal framework under which they operate, making it clear that this hearing was just the beginning of their decision-making process.

It’s important to note, that while the legal process—including written direct testimony, discovery, and pre-hearing briefs—has been ongoing for months, this hearing marked the start of the Commissioners’ active involvement in the case.

So What Can You Do Now?

Actually, there’s still a few things you can do.

Write a Letter: There’s still time to write letters to the commissioners. If you didn’t get to speak or heard things in testimony that you want to address further, grab your keyboard and send them another letter. There’s no limit to how many you can send. Here’s full instructions >

Make a Donation: We still need to raise more money to cover our legal expenses. So if you haven’t donated or want to donate a bit more, every dollar helps. Here’s how >
